5 Things on Your Marketing Department’s Holiday Wish List

November 19, 2025 by McKenzi Taylor

I’d be willing to bet that whomever you’ve put in charge of marketing for your small business could use more than a pat on the back for the holidays this year. Am I right? You and I both know they’ve been working hard all year to get your business in front of your audience of potential clients.

It’s not as easy as your marketing director, your social media specialist and your communications manager make it look. They’ve got a tough job. For one, the marketing and advertising landscape is shifting and spinning more wildly than the teacups at Disney Land. And secondly, your team is tasked with providing daily content with limited assets.

Time to restock their toy chest with new photos! As you read this list of photos you can score with a Branding Photo Shoot from Taylored Photo, just think about the smiles a new batch of photographs will put on the faces of your marketing team.

Photo Wish 1 – Headshots

A headshot is a time-tested business tool that’s been around almost as long as the camera. Today it can be used for your social media profile,  the “About” section of your website or “Meet The Team” type materials. Real estate agents often use headshots on their business cards and yard signs.

Headshots are great for these applications because they are usually small and tightly cropped for placement where there’s only enough space for your head and shoulders.

Photo Wish 2 – Lifestyle

This type of branding photography shows a little bit of you beyond your business. It’ll go a long way toward establishing a connection with your clients. These types of photographs can be defined as photographs of you when you’re doing your work, but also when you’re not!

People want to know who they are buying from, what they represent and how they conduct themselves. Showing that you eat, sleep and breath your product sends a pretty strong message to your customers.

Photo Wish 3 – Product Photos

Product photography consists of images of your actual items for sale. They’re pictures that are meant to entice customers to purchase the product that’s on display. They feature product details and features, so that viewers can actually see the product, in part or in whole.

It’s important not to skimp on product photography. A picture tells a thousand words, and you don’t want the message that your product photos tell to be “I’m cheap,” “I’m lazy” or “I don’t know what I’m doing.”

Use these photos on your website, sales brochures, advertisements and anywhere else you want people to see your products.

Photo Wish 4 – Photos with Props

Using props in your brand photos can be a unique way to bring out your personality and represent your brand and what you do. Decide if you want to use industry-specific props, personal props, creative props or lifestyle props with help from this guide.

Props can help you enhance the storytelling aspect of your photoshoot, whether through artistic flair, thematic context, personal resonance, or a lifestyle representation.

Photo Wish 5 – Behind the Scenes Content

Once you’ve got those first four basics crossed off your marketing team’s photo holiday wish-list, then your team is ready to incorporate some Behind the Scenes (BTS) content.

These days the most effective marketing tool is your social media feed and your social feed needs the BTS goodies. If they know what they’re doing, your marketing team is probably already begging you for candid pics and vids native to a vertical format that show more of what goes on behind the scenes of a small business besides what a traditional photographer or commercial producer would capture.

It’s important to state that our BTS service doesn’t replace a traditional photographer or videographer. Essentially, it’s a batch of raw photos and videos small business owners can get their hands on right away so they can speedily share pics and flics of their services in action.

If you’re interested in learning more about this new type of branding photography, check out my blog that explains everything you need to know to get up to speed on this trending photography service which is only getting bigger in the small business world.
